Hawaiian Family Adventure

Oh Hawaii, how I’ll miss you. I was lucky enough to spend two weeks on the island of Oahu at the beginning of the month. This was our first family vacation, and we got to share it with Cameron’s family. His parents rented a great place in south-west part of the island with enough room for the three of us and Cam’s brother Mike and girlfriend Jillian.

As you can imagine, traveling with a 6 month old is quite a bit more challenging than traveling on our own. Thankfully before we left we got a few key tips from friends: Nurse your baby while taking off and landing on the flight and don’t forget one of those clamp on baby chairs! We got in lots of hiking and bouldering and balanced the exercise with G&T’s, sunsets and beach time.

Highlights for me were; seeing a humpback whale breech, testing out my home-made baby carrier in the jungle (that’s another blog post!), bouldering at Waimea Bay and the many “happy-hours” with the fam. Here’s a small collection of photos from our trip. Enjoy!

First flight ever. First class baby!

Hanauma Bay - snokerlers dream!

A little sleepy after a long hike!

Koko head crater

We had planned to hike Diamond Head, but it turned out to be a tourist zoo, so we went for a drive and stumbled upon a different crater hike. One that only the locals do...because you hike straight up the side of the darn thing...no switch backs! You can see the trail up the side if you look for it.

Waimea Bay

This is Waimea Bay, a world-class surfing spot. Waves are a minimum 15ft and get as high as 40ft in the winter months. This also happened to be where all the great bouldering was on the island, so we spent a lot of time here!

Bouldering at Waimea Bay.

The swimming hole and Maunawili falls. A great hike in the jungle lead us here and we actually had it to ourselves!

SHRIMP TRUCKS! Another highlight of the trip! This particular place was voted #1 on the island...I thought it was funny to see a limo stopped for food. Haleiwa, HI

Last sunset on Oahu. This series made me giggle.

Here's the whole gang - good lookin' group!

My favorite sunset from the trip.
